And another Peak Oil in the Press
Following on here is another Peak Moment… from Boone Pickens (Chairman of the private equity firm BP Capital Management). He talks about this just being the “beginning” …
Watch out …
Peak Oil … where to start…
All new to you… ???
Here is a recommended order of reading and questions to ask yourself…
Peak Oil Coverage in the Mainstream Press
As I reported yesterday, the US Government has for the first time come out openly to raise the issue of Peak Oil. The first major TV station has picked up on the subject and interviewed Matt Simmons on the subject.
For those of you who haven’t heard of Matt Simmons – check out the WIKIPEDIA Article (About Matt Simmons).
If you haven’t read the GAO report yet, do so! But get a sample from YouTube!
First reported here – http://www.theoildrum.com/node/2415
I think Matt’s most telling comment is “replacing Global Waming by this term Peak Oil”… thats how real, how scary and how important the subject is.
Watch the Impact of the Associated Press article on Peak Oil!
So the mainstream press finally picked up on Peak Oil as reported first by the EnergyBulletin.net (Associated Press picks up on peak oil | EnergyBulletin.net | Peak Oil News Clearinghouse). This comes with the release of an official US Government report discussed at the Oil Drum (The Oil Drum | GAO Peak Oil Report Thread.)
Having followed this subject for a couple years now, I am wondering how much of a dent will this make on the general consumer awareness of the subject.
I wanted to post to all who wanted to “watch†if general awareness on Peak Oil actually grows that the Internet already has a reporting system. If you check out Google Trends ( I provide the direct link to a Peak Oil look up here ) it provides historical (1 month delayed) analytics on the major searches made by people in Google Search to provide VERY accurate details. As Google describes it “ Google Trends analyzes a portion of Google web searches to compute how many searches have been done for the terms you enter relative to the total number of searches done on Google over time.â€
Enter in Peak Oil and you get this result (as of March 29th).
Some key features to highlight:
A) Select your Country (UK vs US vs Canada etc…)
B) Key news articles that were accessed most during that point in time.
C) The concentration of searches by different geography… (check out the results!)
Try the tool with other terms… Global Warming, Hubbert etc…
I will check back next month to report on the “Impact†see in Google.
